Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply multi-purpose grease to the new crankshaft rear oil seal lip.

    Important:  Tap the oil seal in until its surface is flush with the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer edge.

  2. Using a hammer, lightly tap the crankshaft rear oil seal into place.

  3. Install the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .

  4. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch and pressure plate. Refer to CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT .
  5. Install the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 N.m (11 Ib. ft).
