Muffler Replacement: Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If muffler was replaced, reinstall the old oxygen sensor.
- Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the old oxygen sensor.
- Install oxygen sensor and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install insulators to muffler hangers.
- Install a new exhaust manifold pipe gasket.
- With the aid of an assistant, slide the muffler forward in order to install the muffler to the catalytic converter.
- Install insulators to the frame hangers.
- Install muffler nuts, until snug.
- Tighten exhaust pipe clamp bolt and muffler nuts. Tighten exhaust muffler nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Tighten exhaust pipe clamp to specification.
- Connect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
- Connect CPA retainer.
- Clip oxygen sensor connector to the support.
- Raise rear axle using adjustable jack stands.
- Install rear shock absorbers lower bolts and nuts. Tighten lower bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove adjustable jack stands from under the rear axle.
- Connect vent hose swivel clip to the rear brake crossover pipe.
- Install rear axle vent hose to rear axle, if necessary.
- Install the left and right sensor link rods to the sensors. Using Hose Clamp Pliers (J-38185), install link rods to ball studs on sensor levers.
- Connect the chassis harness to the electronic suspension rear position sensor and rear shock.
- Install spare tire.
- Install oil pan skid plate and bolts, if necessary. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install rear wheels.
