Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

  1. Raise hood to service position. Remove the hood hinge bolts. Raise hood until vertical. Install hood hinge bolts until snug in the service position.
  2. Loosen clamps at throttle body and air cleaner.
  3. Remove air cleaner outlet duct.
  4. Disconnect battery terminal cables.
  5. Remove ignition coils.
  6. Relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE .
  7. Disconnect fuel feed and return pipes from the fuel rail. See QUICK CONNECT FITTING SERVICE .
  8. Remove A/C compressor.
  9. Remove radiator.
  10. Disconnect Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module electrical connector.
  11. Remove vacuum lines from engine, as required.
  12. Remove EGR valve adapter.
  13. Remove ground cable bolt at the engine block.
  14. Remove generator.
  15. Remove engine electrical harness and tie out of the way.
  16. Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands.
  17. Remove starter motor.
  18. Remove hoses from the power steering pump.
  19. Remove exhaust manifold pipe. See EXHAUST MANIFOLD PIPE .
  20. Remove catalytic converter. See CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
  21. Remove torque converter bolts.
  22. Remove bolts from the transmission to engine.
  23. Remove engine oil cooler lines from engine block.
  24. Attach Engine Lift Brackets (J-36857) to rear of right cylinder head and to front of the left cylinder head.
  25. Install attaching bolt and washer. Tighten lift bracket bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  26. Remove engine mount heat shield bolts and shields.
  27. Remove engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts.
  28. Remove engine using a suitable lifting devise.
  29. Install engine onto a suitable engine stand.
  30. Remove generator mounting bracket.
  31. Remove A/C compressor/power steering pump bracket from cylinder head.
  32. Remove lift brackets from cylinder head.
