Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal: Installation

  1. Ensure crankshaft is free of grit, loose rust, and burrs. Correct as needed.
  2. Apply a very light film of oil onto the crankshaft sealing surface. DO NOT apply oil to sealing surface of engine block.
  3. Using Crankshaft Rear Seal Installer (J-42849), install rear sea to installer.
  4. Position crankshaft rear seal installer against crankshaft. Thread the attaching screws into the tapped holes in crankshaft.
  5. Tighten screws securely with a screwdriver in order to ensure that the seal is installed squarely over the crankshaft.
  6. Rotate the center nut until crankshaft rear seal installer bottoms.
  7. Remove crankshaft rear seal installer.
  8. Install flywheel.
