Crankshaft Balancer: Removal

- Remove A/C belt.
- Remove cooling fan.
- Remove starter motor.
- Install the Flywheel Holding Tool (J-42847) to starter bolt holes. Tighten flywheel holding tool bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 N.m).
- Remove crankshaft balancer bolt and washer.
- Install Crankshaft Balancer Protector Button (J-42846) onto the end of the crankshaft.
- Install Harmonic Balancer Remover (J-38416-B) onto the crankshaft balancer protector button in order to remove crankshaft balancer. Place the legs of harmonic balancer remover into recesses cast into the backside of balancer inner hub. See Figure.
- Tighten center screw of the harmonic balancer remover until the crankshaft balancer is clear of the crankshaft nose.
- Remove crankshaft balancer.
- Remove crankshaft balancer protector button from end of crankshaft.
