Valve Lifters & Guides Cleaning & Inspection

- Clean components in cleaning solvent.
- Dry components with compressed air.
- Inspect valve lifters for a damaged, mispositioned or broken clip. Inspect for a scored or worn push rod socket, or a severely scuffed or worn lifter body. If valve lifter body shows scuffing or wear, inspect engine block valve lifter bores for wear or damage, flat spots on roller, a loose pin or plugged oil hole.
- If flat spots are found on the lifter(s), inspect the corresponding lobe on the camshaft for damage.
- Inspect valve lifter guides for excessive guide slot side wear, cracks or damage.
- Inspect valve lifter guide retainer for wear, damage, or stress cracking in the leg areas. Check for wear or damage around the retainer bolt holes.
