Test D: Blower Motor Always On

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
  2. NOTE: This step checks for continuous operation of the blower motor.
  3. Turn ignition on. Place the mode selector to the VENT position. Place the blower motor switch to the OFF position. Is the blower motor off? If so, check for intermittent and poor connections. If not, go to next step.
  4. NOTE: This step tests for a short to voltage in the blower motor control circuits.
    NOTE: The blower motor switch must remain in the OFF position during this step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the blower motor resistor assembly connector C1. Turn ignition on. Probe each blower motor control circuit with a test light that is connected to ground. Did the test light illuminate while connected to any of the blower motor control circuits? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  5.
  6. Check the appropriate blower motor control circuit for a short to voltage. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9. If not, go to step  6.
  7. Inspect blower motor resistor assembly harness connectors for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9. If not, go to step  7.
  8. Inspect HVAC control assembly harness connector for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9. If not, go to step  8.
  9. Replace the blower motor resistor assembly. See BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  9.
  10. Replace the HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  11. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  2.
