Camshaft Position Sensor: Installation

CAUTION: Do not use the old cap, CMP sensor, and rotor screws. Use the replacement screws that have been coated with a threadlock compound.

Install CMP sensor into distributor through square slot in distributor reluctor wheel. See Fig 3. Install NEW CMP sensor retaining screws and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install distributor rotor and distributor cap using NEW retaining screws and tighten to specification. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.

Install the CMP sensor. Install the CMP sensor bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

Lubricate CMP sensor "O" ring with clean engine oil. Tighten CMP sensor retaining bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
Install the steering linkage shield and bolts, if equipped. Tighten the steering linkage shield bolts to specification. Lower the vehicle.
