Camshaft Position Sensor: Installation

CAUTION:
Do not use the old cap, CMP sensor, and rotor screws. Use the replacement screws that have been coated with a threadlock compound.
Install CMP sensor into distributor through square slot in distributor reluctor wheel. See Fig 3. Install NEW CMP sensor retaining screws and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install distributor rotor and distributor cap using NEW retaining screws and tighten to specification. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
- Install the CMP sensor. Install the CMP sensor bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lubricate CMP sensor "O" ring with clean engine oil. Tighten CMP sensor retaining bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
- Install the steering linkage shield and bolts, if equipped. Tighten the steering linkage shield bolts to specification. Lower the vehicle.
