Leaf Spring: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the leaf spring assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Loosely assemble the spring to the front hanger bracket. See Figure .
  3. Install the front spring hanger bracket bolt.
  4. Install the front spring hanger bracket nut.
  5. Install the rear shackle to the spring bolt. See Figure .
  6. Install the shackle to the spring nut.
  7. Install the spring spacer.
  8. NOTE: DO NOT reuse the U-bolts.
  9. Install the U-bolts. See Figure .
  10. Install the anchor plate.
  11. Install U-bolt nuts. Tighten the fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  12. Install the fuel tank, if necessary. Tighten the fuel tank strap bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  13. Install the trailer hitch (if equipped).
  14. Connect the RTD sensor harness connector to the vehicle harness connector (if equipped).
  15. Remove the rear axle support.
  16. Remove the safety stands.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
