Fuel Rail & Injectors: Removal

- Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Clean the fuel rail assembly with a spray type Engine Cleaner (GM X-30A) or an equivalent, if necessary. Follow the package instructions. Disconnect the fuel feed and return pipes from the fuel rail. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
- Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) air tube from the cam cover. See Figure. Disconnect the PCV valve from the cam cover. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the push in retainers securing the front air deflector to the vehicle. Remove the front air deflector. Partially drain the cooling system.
- Lower the vehicle. Remove the coolant surge tank inlet pipe from engine and set aside. Remove the fuel rail bracket retainer nut. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors from each fuel injector. See Figure. Lay the harness aside. Remove the fuel rail attaching studs. See Figure.
- Remove the fuel rail. Remove the injector lower "O" ring seal from the spray tip end of each injector. Discard the "O" ring seals. To remove injector(s) from the fuel rail, push the locking tab on the fuel rail toward the center of the fuel rail. Remove and discard the fuel injector upper "O" ring. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator, if replacing the fuel rail.
