Removal & Installation: Thermostat: Removal

  1. Drain the coolant. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING . Drain remaining coolant from engine block drain cock, if equipped. Lift and support the intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the coolant pipe.
  2. Remove the coolant pipe/engine lift bracket bolt. Rotate the oil level indicator and tube away from the pipe. See Figure. Remove the thermostat extension pipe. Remove and discard the "O" ring seals.
  3. Remove the thermostat with the housing. Remove the bolts. Tilt the rear of the thermostat housing upward. Lift out the housing. Remove and discard the "O" ring seal. Inspect the thermostat components for damage, seat deterioration or any abnormal condition.
