Removal & Installation: Radiator: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Open hood. To remove the front bumper cover perform the following steps:
    • Remove the front side marker lamps.
      1. Remove the side marker to body push-in retainer. Lift the side marker up and out of the fascia to free lower attaching tabs. Rotate the side marker bulb socket assembly counterclockwise and remove it from the side marker housing. Remove the side marker lamp assembly from the vehicle.
    • Remove the headlights.
      1. Remove the headlight bracket to structure bolts.
        NOTE: Make sure the screwdriver tip fits through the opening in the headlight bracket lower arm.
      2. Insert a blat-bladed tool through the opening in the upper structure. Gently push the locking tab toward the rear of the vehicle with flat-bladed tool to detach the headlight bracket lower arm. Lift headlight assembly upward. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlight assembly.
    • Remove the front air deflector.
      1. Remove the front air deflector to fascia screws. Remove the front air deflector to engine cradle push-in retainers. Remove the front air deflector by lowering from the vehicle.
    • Remove the front wheelhouse liners.
      1. Remove the push-in retainers from the front wheelhouse liner. Remove the wheelhouse liner from the vehicle.
    • Disconnect the fog lamp electrical connector (if equipped), by reaching through the headlight opening.
    • Remove the fascia to lower front fender bracket bolts. Remove the fascia to body push-in retainers. Separate the fascia from the front fenders. Remove the fascia to fascia support push-in retainers. Remove the fascia from the vehicle.
  2. Drain the coolant from radiator drain plug. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING . Disconnect the fan motor from the engine harness. Unclip the wire harness from the fan assembly. Unclip the transmission cooler lines from the fan assembly. Remove the battery box inlet air duct. Remove the condenser splash shield.
  3. Remove the radiator upper hose. Remove the radiator lower hose. Remove the upper Condenser/Radiator/Fan Module (CRFM) bracket assemblies. See Fig 1. Lift the CRFM assembly from the lower brackets and carefully move the bottom of the assembly rearward while tilting the top forward. See Fig 2.
  4. Remove the fan assembly to radiator bolt. Remove the fan assembly. Unclip the condenser from the radiator.
  5. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, unclip the transaxle oil cooler lines from the radiator. Cap or tape off the transaxle oil cooler lines to prevent oil loss or contamination. Remove the radiator. Remove the radiator seals.
