Crankshaft And Main Bearings: Removal

  1. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN . Remove the oil pickup tube. Remove the oil baffle. Remove the crankshaft bearing bridge bolts. Remove the main bearing cap bolts. See Fig 1. Remove the crankshaft bearing bridge.
  2. Remove the first main bearing cap. Remove the first main bearing cap lower insert. Remove the second main bearing cap. Remove the second main bearing cap lower insert. Remove the third main bearing cap. Remove the third main bearing cap lower insert.
  3. To remove the fourth main bearing cap, perform the following steps:
    • Insert a bolt into the main bearing cap oil pan threaded hole or pry the crankshaft and the drain bearing cap from the block using the pry bar at each end of the flywheel.
    • Use a pry bar to pry the cap from the block.
    • Remove the fourth main bearing cap.
    • Remove the fourth main bearing cap lower insert.
  4. Carefully remove the crankshaft from the engine block. Remove the crankshaft reluctor ring bolts. Remove the crankshaft reluctor ring. Remove the crankcase ventilation baffle from the #4 upper main bearing journal.
