Engine Identification

Engine can be identified by eighth character of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), stamped on a metal pad near lower left corner of windshield. See ENGINE IDENTIFICATION CODES  table.

3.0L DOHC (L81) B
(1) Engine identification code is the eighth character in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  1. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Derivative is located on the lower right side of the engine block and is a 9 digit number stamped or laser etched onto the engine at the vehicle assembly plant. If reading the identification number from the left, the following information can be obtained:
    • The first digit identifies the vehicle division.
    • The second digit identifies the model year.
    • The third digit identifies the assembly plant.
    • The fourth through ninth digits are the last six digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  2. Engine displacement is cast into the engine block under the starter motor.
