DTC P1574: BRAKELIGHT Switch Circuit: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform the CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . Once test has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn on the ignition, with the engine off. Retrieve the DTCs from the EBCM. If there are any DTCs that begin with a "C" also set, see ANTI-LOCK/TCS - BOSCH 5.3 - C, G, H & K BODIES article in BRAKES. If not, go to next step.
  3. Repair the short to voltage on the brakelight switch signal circuit. If this corrects the condition, go to next step.
  4. Use the scan tool to clear the DTCs. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC as specified in the supporting text. If the DTC resets, go to step  2.
