Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the front transaxle mounting bracket on the transaxle assembly. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Install the left transaxle mounting bracket on the transaxle assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Position the transaxle on the front suspension crossmember.
  4. Install the 6 transaxle-to-engine retaining bolts (1, 2 and 3). See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the front mount through bolt. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install the transfer case assembly on the transaxle. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - VIBE article in TRANSFER CASES.
  7. Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the transaxle.
  8. Install the 2 bolts and ground cables to the transaxle. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install the engine and transaxle as an assembly in the vehicle. See appropriate MECHANICAL article in ENGINES.
    10. WARNING: The anodized (gold colored) bolt must be installed first. This bolt is to insure proper alignment for the other 5 bolts.
  10. Install the 6 torque converter bolts. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Install the starter assembly in the vehicle. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL.
  12. Install the flywheel inspection cover.
  13. Install the drain plug with a NEW gasket. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Fill the transaxle with appropriate fluid to proper level. See LUBRICATION in SERVICING - VIBE (AWD) article.
