Hub & Bearing Assembly: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle, allowing suspension to hang freely. Remove wheel. Disconnect tie rod from knuckle by removing nut from ball stud, loosening jam (adjuster) nut, and pulling ball stud from steering knuckle using Universal Steering Linkage Puller (J-24319-B).
  2. Insert drift into rotor, and against caliper (to prevent rotor from turning). Remove axle shaft nut. Remove stabilizer bar link. Disconnect electrical connector from wheel speed sensor, and position harness away from ball joint. Remove ball joint from knuckle using Ball Joint Separator (J-43828).
  3. Use Hub Spindle Remover (J-42129) to remove hub spindle. Assemble Slide Hammer (J-2619-01), Wheel Axle Shaft Remover (J-33008-A) and Extension (J-29794), and disengage axle shaft from transaxle. Remove axle shaft from vehicle.
  4. Remove caliper, and wire aside. Remove caliper bracket. Remove brake rotor. Remove ABS electrical connector from retaining bracket. Remove hub and bearing assembly from steering knuckle See Figure and Figure .
