Fuel Rail & Injectors: Installation

WARNING:
The fuel rail stop bracket must be installed onto the engine assembly. The stop bracket serves as a protective shield for the fuel rail in the event of a vehicle frontal crash. If the fuel rail stop bracket is not installed and the vehicle is involved in a frontal crash, fuel could be sprayed possibly causing a fire and personal injury from burns.
NOTE:
The fuel injector assembly is stamped with a part number identification, a manufacturing date, a week code, and a production plant number. See Fig 3. Inspect the new injectors in order to ensure installation of the correct part.
- Lubricate the new injector upper "O" ring seal with clean engine oil. Install the new injector "O" ring seal on the injector. Install a new retainer clip on the injector. Push the fuel injector into the fuel rail injector socket with the electrical connector facing outward. The retainer clip locks on to a flange on the fuel rail injector socket.
- Note the location of the fuel rail ground strap on the intake manifold. The fuel rail ground strap must be installed during assembly. See Fig 1. Lubricate the new lower injector "O" ring seals with clean engine oil. Install the new "O" ring seals on the spray tip end of each injector.
- Install the fuel rail assembly to the intake manifold. Apply a 0.020" (0.5 mm) bead of GM Threadlock (12345382 USA or 10953489 Canada) or equivalent to the threads of the fuel rail bolts. Install the fuel rail attaching bolts. Tighten the fuel rail attaching bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the injector electrical connectors. Install each connector on the proper injector in order to ensure the correct sequential injector firing order. Rotate the injectors as required in order to avoid stretching the injector wiring harness. Connect the fuel feed hose to the fuel rail. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS . Tighten the fuel filler cap.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks. Turn the ignition on for 2 seconds. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition on. Inspect for fuel leaks. Install the left and right fuel rail covers.
- Check if keyless entry transmitters function properly. If battery was disconnected, transmitter may not communicate or may loose synchronization with the receiver. If transmitters do not function properly, reprogram transmitters. See KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING.
