  1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
  2. CAUTION: To prevent possible arcing, negative battery cable MUST be disconnected first. This will prevent possible bodily injury or component damage.
  3. Remove air induction system. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect positive battery cable. Remove battery shield and battery. Remove battery tray/cooler box (one bolt located in fenderwell).
  4. Remove transaxle assembly. See TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY  .
  5. NOTE: Prior to removal, inspect pressure plate and flywheel for factory reference marks to be used for reassembly. If marks are not present, add reference marks.
  6. Mark pressure plate and flywheel for reassembly reference, if necessary. Loosen pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern to prevent pressure plate distortion. Remove the pressure plate assembly to flywheel bolts. Remove the pressure plate assembly and clutch disc.
