Vacuum Bleeding

CAUTION: DO NOT use a mineral or paraffin base oil in clutch hydraulic system. Damage to rubber parts in cylinders will occur.
  1. Tighten bleed screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Ensure the pedal is in the released position. Fill the reservoir with DOT 3 hydraulic fluid to the MAX level. Install Rubber Stopper (J-45727) over the top of the reservoir and ensure a tight fit.
  2. Attach Vacuum Pump (J-23738) to stopper with a length of hose. Operate the vacuum pump to achieve indicated vacuum on gauge of (15-20" Hg. (51-68 kPa). Hold vacuum for about one minute. If vacuum cannot be achieved or held, check hose and stopper connections for tightness. Vacuum will draw air from hydraulic system.
    3. NOTE: Brake fluid will deteriorate the rubber on the rubber stopper. Use a clean shop towel to wipe away all fluid after each use.
  3. Slowly relieve vacuum and remove the rubber stopper from the reservoir. Fill reservoir to the proper level. Repeat procedure until all air is removed from the clutch system. Replace the reservoir cap.
  4. The clutch pedal will go to the floor on the first actuation, but should improve on the following actuations. Actuate the clutch pedal 10-12 times to ensure proper operation. Road test the vehicle to ensure proper clutch operation and shifting. Check fluid and add as necessary.
