Torque Steer

- Did you review the General Description and perform the necessary inspections? See DESCRIPTION and VISUAL/PHYSICAL INSPECTION . Go to next step.
- Road test to verify if condition is present. If condition is present go to next step.
- Ensure that the tires are all the same size, make, and adequate tread depth. Ensure that all of the tires are inflated to the correct pressure. Road test the vehicle in order to verify the customer complaint.
- Inspect the front suspension for worn or damaged components. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
- Drive the vehicle on a straight, smooth, flat road at 40-60 mph (64-97 km/h). Remove your foot from the accelerator. Shift the transmission into Neutral in order to allow the vehicle to coast. Momentarily release the steering wheel and note any change in the direction of the vehicle. Repeat this test with the vehicle traveling in the opposite direction in order to eliminate crosswind effects. Lead/pull caused by unlevel roads and crosswinds are considered normal. If vehicle direction changes when the steering wheel is momentarily released. Cross switch front tires. If condition is not corrected, go to next step.
- Drive the vehicle on a straight, smooth, flat road. Shift the transmission into Drive. Press the accelerator and momentarily release the steering wheel. Repeat this test with the vehicle traveling in the opposite direction in order to eliminate crosswind effects. Lead/pull caused by unlevel roads and crosswinds are considered normal. If vehicle exhibits torque steer when accelerator is pressed, go to next step. If not, test system for normal operation.
- Inspect the vehicle trim height. See ELECTRONIC - LEVEL CONTROL. After completing trim height inspection and adjustment. If trim height is not correct, repair and recheck system for normal operation.
- Measure the transaxle height at each side from the frame. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT. Inspect worn or damaged powertrain mounts. Replace as necessary. If difference in left and right side transaxle heights is not within specification. Repair as necessary. Correct the height difference by shimming the powertrain mounts. Road test the vehicle in order to verify the customer complaint. If condition still exists, go to next step.
- Inspect and adjust wheel alignment as necessary. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT. Road test vehicle, inspect for corrected condition.
