Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS .
- Observe the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data for this DTC. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within the Conditions for Running in the DTC or as close to the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data that you observed. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . Does the DTC fail this ignition? If yes, go to next step. If no, problem is intermittent. Refer to INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 2.2L & 3.0L VUE article.
- Connect a scan tool. Are there any transmission DTCs set? If yes, go to step 5. If no, go to next step.
- Was an ECM communication condition repaired? If yes, go to step 7. If no, go to step 6.
- Diagnose and repair any transmission DTCs. Refer to DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. After repairs, go to step 7.
- Replace ECM. Perform ECM relearn procedures. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing ECM, go to next step.
- Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within the Conditions for Running in the DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to step 3.
- Observe the stored information, Capture Info with a scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
