Clutch Pedal Stays On Floor (Clutch Disengaged)

  1. Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT  .
  2. Inspect for the master cylinder pushrod to have fallen off the clutch pedal. Has the master cylinder pushrod fallen off the clutch pedal. If yes, go to step  4 . If no, go to next step.
  3. Inspect the clutch hydraulic line. Is the hydraulic line bursting or leaking? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5 .
  4. Install the master cylinder pushrod. See CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER & RESERVOIR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the vehicle is equipped with the ZF S6-650 manual transmission, you must manually pull the clutch pedal back. The ZF S6-650 manual transmission does not have a return spring on this assembly. Does the clutch pedal stay on the floor when disengaged? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  6 .
  5. Inspect the reservoir for fluid. Is there fluid in the reservoir? If yes, go to step  7 . If no, go to next step.
  6. Fill the reservoir with fluid. Does the clutch pedal stay on the floor when disengaged? If yes, go to next step. If no, system is okay.
  7. Remove the transmission. See TRANSMISSION  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect the clutch release bearing in the concentric slave cylinder for binding. Is there binding on the clutch release bearing? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  9 .
  8. Free up the clutch release bearing or replace the clutch release bearing. See CONCENTRIC SLAVE (ACTUATOR) CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Does the clutch pedal stay on the floor when disengaged? If yes, go to next step. If no, system is okay.
  9. Inspect the master cylinder and the quick connect fitting for leaks. Is the master cylinder faulty? If yes, go to next step. If no, system is okay.
  10. Replace the master cylinder. See CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER & RESERVOIR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you find and repair the condition? If yes, go to next step. If no, system is okay.
  11. Install the transmission. See TRANSMISSION  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition?
