Control Valve Solenoids: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2003 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Obtain the new solenoid. Lubricate new "O" rings (2) with clean transmission fluid. Install the "O" rings and push the new solenoids into the control valve body bore with the wiring harness connector in the correct position.
  2. Reinstall the 2 accumulators (3) and springs (6) before installing the A/B solenoid bracket (5). The valve (3) goes in the bore first with the hollow end facing outward, followed by the spring (6) which goes inside the hollow portion of the valve. See Figure .
  3. Install the solenoid retainers (1) for the "C", "D", "E", and "F" solenoids. See Figure .
  4. Reinstall the solenoid retaining bracket (5). Install 3 bolts (4) and tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the reverse signal tube. Install the 2 bolts (2) that fasten reverse signal tube (1) to the control valve assembly. See Figure . Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Reconnect the internal wiring harness to the solenoid.
  7. Install the oil pan and suction filter. Fill transmission with appropriate fluid to proper level. See LUBRICATION  .
