Steering Gear Actuator & Differential Cover: Installation

    NOTE: Clean all of the sealing surfaces prior to installing the gasket. DO NOT reinstall the old gasket, replace the gasket whenever the actuator is removed from the axle. Install the steering gear actuator and gasket to the differential.
  1. Install the steering gear actuator and gasket to the differential. Install the steering gear actuator and cover retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Connect the electrical connectors to the control module. Install the differential vent hose to the vent tube. Install the drain plug and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Fill the differential with fluid. See LUBRICATION  .
  3. Install the outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckle. Install steering gear shield retaining bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Install the wheel/tire assembly. Lower the vehicle. Perform a four wheel alignment. See appropriate WHEEL ALIGNMENT article.
