Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Buick Regal and 2002 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in Restraints.
  3. Remove the upper trim panel from the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper .
  4. Remove the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (D06)  or Console Replacement - Front Floor (D55)  .
  5. Remove the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right  and to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
  6. Remove the steering column filler. Refer to Steering Column Filler Replacement .
  7. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  8. Remove the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
  9. Remove the bolts from the hood latch release handle. Remove the hood release cable from the hood release handle. Remove the hood release handle from the instrument panel.
  10. Remove the bolts from the data link connector, and move the DLC harness to one side.
  11. Using J 38778 (Door Trim Pad and Clip Remover), loosen the door opening carpet retainer clips. Remove the carpet retainer from the vehicle.
  12. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - I/P Accessory .
  13. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Trim Plate Bezel Replacement - I/P Cluster .
  14. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  15. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  16. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
  17. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  18. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY in HVAC Systems - Manual or to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  19. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - I/P .
  20. Remove the bolts from the right end of the I/P.

  21. Remove the center and the lower bolts from the I/P.

  22. Remove the bolt from the left end of the I/P.

  23. Remove the bolts from the upper I/P.

  24. Reposition the wiring harness from the I/Passembly.
  25. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.
