Cleaning & Inspection

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 17 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 GMC Savana Special, and 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: DO NOT steam clean any parts having a ground and polished surface, such as bearings, gears or shafts.
  1. Use cleaning solvent to rinse gears and bearings. Check bearing rollers for wear. Check outboard spacers for damage, such as bends or deep grooves, which indicate worn bearings. Replace as necessary. Check pinion and yoke splines for excessive wear. Inspect ring gear and pinion teeth for excessive or improper wear.
  2. Check differential case for cracks. Check for scoring or wear of side gears, thrust washers and pinion thrust faces. Check fit of side gears-to-case and side gear-to-axle shaft splines. Replace as required.
