Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation

  1. Install the transaxle mount.
  2. Install the PNP switch. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SERVICING article.
  3. CAUTION: Ensure the transaxle is secured properly to the transmission jack.
  4. Install the transaxle to the transmission jack.
  5. Use the transmission jack to raise and install the transaxle to the engine.
  6. Install the lower transaxle bolt (6) and the stud (1). See Figure . Tighten the bolt and the stud to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install the transaxle brace. See TRANSAXLE BRACE  .
  8. Connect the VSS electrical connector.
  9. Remove the drive axles from the steering knuckle and the struts.
  10. Install the drive axles to transaxle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  11. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to transaxle. See OIL COOLER HOSE/PIPES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SERVICING article.
  12. Install the appropriate flywheel holder to the flywheel and install the torque converter bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  13. Install the starter motor. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL.
  14. Install the torque converter cover. See Figure .
  15. Install the torque converter cover bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  16. Install the transaxle fluid filler tube. See Figure .
  17. Install the transaxle fluid filler tube bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  18. Remove the transmission jack from the transaxle.
  19. Install the frame to the vehicle. See FRAME REPLACEMENT  .
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Install the upper transaxle bolts (3, 4 and 5) and the stud (2). See Figure . Tighten the bolts and the stud to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  22. Install the engine ground wires and the nuts to the studs. Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  23. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket and the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the transaxle.
  24. Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the transaxle and the PNP switch.
  25. Remove the engine support fixture. See ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE  .
  26. Install the engine mount strut brackets to upper radiator support. See UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT  .
  27. Install the air cleaner intake duct. See AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT  .
  28. Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  29. Adjust the transaxle fluid level. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article.
  30. Inspect for fluid leaks.
