Installation Procedure

  1. Place a small amount of sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1).

  2. Place the engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
  3. Place the engine front cover in position on the crankcase.
  4. Install the engine front cover retaining bolts.

    CAUTION: Refer toFASTENER NOTICE .
  5. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the engine front cover bolts in proper sequence to 10 N.m (89 in lbs)

  7. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  8. Install the right engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement - Right .
  9. Install the drive belt idler pulley.
  10. Install the drive belt idler pulley bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 N.m (37 ft lbs).

  11. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
