Fuel System

- Discuss with the owner the type, quality, and alcohol content of the fuel. Oxygenated fuels have lower energy and may deliver reduced fuel economy. Check for a contaminated fuel condition. - Check the fuel injectors. Go to FUEL INJECTOR COIL TEST under FUEL SYSTEMS (GASOLINE) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 2.2L ALERO, CAVALIER, GRAND AM & SUNFIRE article.
- Test for incorrect fuel pressure. Go to FUEL PRESSURE TEST under FUEL SYSTEMS in (GASOLINE) BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - 2.2L ALERO, CAVALIER, GRAND AM & SUNFIRE article.
- Check for a restricted fuel filter. Go to FUEL SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS (GASOLINE) under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - 2.2L ALERO, CAVALIER, GRAND AM & SUNFIRE article.

- Check that each fuel injector harness is connected to the correct injector and cylinder. Relocate the injector harnesses as necessary.
- Check for fuel in the pressure regulator vacuum hose. If there is fuel in the hose replace the regulator.
