Crankshaft Position Sensor: Installation

- Inspect the CKP sensor "O" ring and lubricate with a mineral based grease.
- Insert the CKP sensor into the block.
- Install the CKP sensor retaining bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the starter. See Figure .
- Install the starter bolts. Tighten the starter bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the harness connectors to the starter. Tighten the battery terminal nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the "S" terminal connector to the starter. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Insert the CKP sensor into the block.
- Install the CKP sensor bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lubricate the "O" ring with clean engine oil before installation and replace if damaged.
- Install CKP sensor to the block. See Figure .
- Install the sensor attaching bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect CKP sensor harness connector.
- Install the right tire and wheel. Tighten wheel nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Perform the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure. See CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE under PROGRAMMING.
- Install the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor 24X with bolts and route harness as noted during removal.
- Install the harness retaining clip with bolt. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Apply Sealer (GM P/N United States 12345739, Canadian P/N 10953541), or equivalent, to the keyway of the crankshaft balancer.
- Place the crankshaft balancer into position over the key in the crankshaft.
- Install the Crankshaft Balance Installer (J 29113) onto the crankshaft. See Fig 1 .
- Install the crankshaft balancer into position.
- Remove the installer from the crankshaft balancer.
- Install the crankshaft balancer washer and bolt. Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Use the utility stand to raise the frame/powertrain.
- Install NEW right side frame bolts.
- Install the right engine splash shield.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the drive belt.
- Perform the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure. See CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE under PROGRAMMING.
