Fuel Tank Draining

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Never drain or store fuel in an open container. Always use an approved fuel storage container to reduce the chance of fire or explosion. Place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby before performing any on-vehicle service procedures. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury.
  1. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  2. Install Fuel Flapper Door Holder (J-42960-2) into the fuel fill pipe to hold the fill door open. See Fig 1 .
  3. Insert Fuel Drain Hose (J-42960-1) into the fuel tank until the hose reaches the bottom of the fuel tank. See Fig 1 .
  4. Use an air operated pump device to drain as much fuel through the fuel fill pipe as possible.
