Removal & Installation (Focus, LS, Mustang, Ranger, Thunderbird, Town Car & ZX2)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 110 other vehicles, including the 2003 Pontiac Vibe, 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, and 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Record radio preset frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute to deplete backup power supply energy.
Remove module retaining screw trim plugs, (if equipped), from back of steering wheel. Remove driver air bag retaining screws or Torx screws. See Fig 1. Disconnect air bag module wiring connector from clockspring connector. Disconnect horn switch connector, if necessary. Remove air bag module.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten air bag module bolts to specification. See AIR BAG MODULE TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS (FORD) . Connect negative battery cable. Ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Reprogram radio preset frequencies and set clock.
