Disabling System (Blackwood)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 110 other vehicles, including the 2003 Pontiac Vibe, 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, and 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Record radio preset frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Move and tilt front seats to their highest and rearmost position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
  2. Pull out retaining clips at all 4 corners of upper steering column cover and remove cover. Remove central junction box cover. Remove 2 bolts and disconnect parking brake release lever. Remove 2 retaining bolts and disconnect hood release lever. Remove lower instrument panel steering column cover.
  3. Disconnect clockspring electrical connector at the base of steering column. See Fig 1. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to lower clockspring connector. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
  4. Remove oval-shaped relay cover from passenger side of instrument panel. See Figure. Disconnect passenger side air bag module electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
  5. Disconnect passenger seat side air bag connector located under passenger seat. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side.
  6. Remove passenger side "B" pillar assist handle and trim panel. Disconnect passenger side safety belt retractor pretensioner connector. Connect appropriate simulator to vehicle harness (in place of safety belt retractor pretensioner). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side safety belt retractor pretensioner. Connect negative battery cable.
