Activating System (Explorer & Mountaineer)

  1. Move and tilt the front seats to their highest and most forward position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy. Remove air bag simulator from clockspring connector at top of steering column. Install driver's air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE .
  2. Remove air bag simulator from passenger air bag vehicle harness connector. Connect passenger air bag module harness connector. Install glove box.
  3. On models with safety canopies, remove air bag simulator from safety canopies vehicle harness connector. Connect safety canopies to vehicle harness connector. Install "C" pillar trim panel. Repeat procedure for driver side air bag.
  4. From under front seat, push in to release tab and disconnect air bag simulator from seat belt buckle pretensioner electrical connector. Connect seat belt buckle pretensioner electrical connector to pretensioner floor electrical connector.
  5. Reconnect negative battery cable. Recheck system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Reprogram radio preset frequencies and set clock.
