Installation (1500 Series)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Yukon, 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Clean the debris and the dust from the park brake components using a clean shop cloth.
- Align the slots in both the adjusting screw and tappet to be parallel with the backing plate face. See Figure.
- Install the park brake shoe assembly to the vehicle by placing one of the open ends of the shoe over the axle flange and rotating the shoe until it is behind the flange.
- Position the park brake shoe on the inboard side of the actuator.
- Slide the park brake shoe into position and seat into the retaining spring.
- Inspect the shoe assembly position. The shoe must be central on the backing plate with both tips located in the slots.
- Adjust the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Install the rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR .
- Install the park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
- Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer. Tighten the nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the tire and wheel. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust park brake cable. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
