Park Brake Actuator: Installation

  1. Assemble the actuator to the park brake shoe. See Figure . Install the park brake shoe and actuator onto the backing plate.
  2. Position the park brake shoe, actuator, and backing plate over the rear hub.
  3. Install the park brake cable bracket and the 2 retainers. Tighten the park brake cable bracket retainers to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the rear hub. See HUB & BEARING ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in REAR - "W" BODY in SUSPENSION. The rear hub, backing plate, park brake cable bracket, and park brake actuator will be installed as an assembly.
  5. Install and connect the rear park brake cable to the bracket at the rear wheel. See PARK BRAKE CABLE  .
  6. Connect the park brake cable return spring to the park brake actuator and bracket at the rear wheel.
  7. Install the rear rotor. See REAR BRAKE ROTOR  .
  8. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Tighten wheel lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Adjust the park brake system. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
