Test Ac: Chime Inoperative: 2001

  1. If audible warnings description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If audible warnings description and operation has not been reviewed, go to AUDIBLE WARNINGS  under DESCRIPTION and AUDIBLE WARNINGS  under OPERATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn headlights on. Open driver's door. If chime does not sound, go to next step. If chime sounds, problem may be intermittent. Try to recreate fault by wiggling wiring and connectors. Check for faulty connections at all connectors that may be causing intermittent condition.
  3. Check for open or high resistance in Gray wire between IPC harness connector terminal A8 and ILLUM fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. See Figure . If Gray wire is okay, go to next step. If Gray wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  4. Check for open or high resistance in Purple wire between driver's door jamb switch harness connector terminal "A" and headlight switch harness connector terminal "L". See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If Purple wire is okay, go to next step. If Purple wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  5. With driver's door open, check continuity between driver's door jamb switch harness connector terminals "A" (Purple wire) and "D" (Black wire). See Fig 1 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step  13 .
  6. Check for open or high resistance in Black wire between driver's door jamb switch harness connector terminal "D" and ground. If Black wire is okay, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for open or high resistance in Light Green wire between ignition key alarm switch and Multifunction Alarm Module (MFAM) harness connector terminal C1. See Figure . If Light Green wire is okay, go to next step. If Light Green wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  8. Check for open or high resistance in Tan wire between driver's door jamb harness connector terminal "A" and in-line harness connector C200 terminal B4. If Tan wire is okay, go to next step. If Tan wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  9. With key in ignition switch, check continuity between in-line harness connector C200 terminals B3 (Light Green wire) and B4 (Tan wire). If continuity does not exist, go to step  11 . If continuity exists, go to step  12 .
  10. Replace driver's door jamb switch. After repair, go to step  13 .
  11. Replace ignition key alarm switch. After repair, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace MFAM. After repair, go to next step.
  13. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
