Transmission Control Module: Removal

NOTE: When replacing TCM with a NEW unit, TCM must be reprogrammed. After replacing TCM or if program needs to be updated, refer to latest Techline information on TCM reprogramming.

NOTE: Remove any debris from the TCM connector surfaces before servicing the TCM. Inspect the TCM module connector gaskets when diagnosing or replacing the TCM. Ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminant intrusion into the TCM.

NOTE: The ignition must be off when disconnecting or reconnecting power to the TCM.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the bolts (1) from the TCM cover located on the left side of the radiator shroud. See Fig 1.
Pull the cover and module assembly up and away from the radiator shroud.
Push up on the retainers (1) to remove the control module from the cover. See Fig 2.
Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) and remove the TCM from the vehicle. See Fig 3.
