Diagnostic Aids
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Check for any of the following conditions:
- Check Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor output signal with a scan tool. The scan tool will display engine speed while cranking when PCM detects CKP sensor signal. Observe ENGINE SPEED parameter while cranking engine. Scan tool should indicate a steady 200-300 RPM while cranking.
- CKP sensor performance may be affected by temperature. Check sensor operation and internal resistance at various temperatures. CKP sensor resistance when cold should be 1630-2740 ohms at 14-122°F (-10 to 50°C). CKP sensor resistance when hot should be 2065-3225 ohms at 122-212°F (50-100°C).
- An intermittent DTC P0335 can be caused by a defective signal rotor. Remove CKP sensor and visually check the teeth of the signal rotor through CKP sensor aperture for damage, foreign material, or incorrect installation.
- A DTC P0335 that sets while driving and checks okay may be caused by inadequate CKP sensor circuit shielding. Check CKP sensor circuit is properly shielded and drain wire is fastened securely to ground.
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a fault in the CKP sensor electrical circuit. Check the wiring harness and the components for an intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 1.8L VIBE article. Repair any electrical circuit faults found. Information included in freeze frame data can be useful in determining vehicle operating conditions when the DTC first set.
