Shift Select Cable: Removal

- Remove the manual shift lever from the vehicle. See MANUAL SELECTOR .
- Remove the inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) from the vehicle. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
- Disconnect the HO2S electrical sensor. See appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Perform the following steps to remove the air cleaner assembly from the vehicle:
- Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
- Release the 2 retaining clips (3). See Fig 1 .
- Lift the air cleaner cover (2) up and away from the lower assembly.
- Remove the air cleaner element.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Perform the following steps to remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle:
- Remove the floor panel brace. See Fig 2 .
- Remove the 2 bolts and the 2 springs from the exhaust manifold. See Fig 3 .
- Remove the 2 bolts and the 2 springs from the front pipe to the Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) exhaust pipe.
- Remove the front pipe from the front pipe hanger (2).
- Remove the front pipe from the vehicle.
- Clean the gasket and seal the mating surfaces.
- Remove the front heat shield from the vehicle.
- Remove the cable retaining clip, then disconnect the cable from the bracket.
- Remove the shift select cable from the cable support bracket. See Fig 4 .
- Remove the 2 nuts, then separate the cable from the vehicle. See Fig 5 .
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the shift select cable from the bracket. See Figure .
- Disconnect the shift select cable from the transaxle.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the shift select cable from the vehicle.
- Inspect the shift select cable for kinks, fraying, or excessive wear. Replace as necessary.
