Overdrive Switch: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the manual selector from vehicle. See MANUAL SELECTOR  .
  2. Remove the push clip (1) from the manual selector plate, then remove the wire harness. See Fig 1 .
  3. Disconnect the connector (2) from the manual selector plate.
  4. Using the terminal removal tool from Terminal Repair Kit (J-38125-B), remove the 2 white OVERDRIVE switch wires (2) from the OVERDRIVE switch/manual selector illumination lamp electrical connector (1). See Fig 2 .
  5. Loosen the 2 manual selector knob retaining screws. See Fig 3 .
    NOTE: When the manual selector knob is lifted upward, the shift knob button will be released under slight spring pressure.
  6. Gently raise the manual selector knob upward, then remove the manual selector knob button. See Fig 4 .
  7. Remove the manual selector knob sleeve retaining screw, then remove the selector sleeve. See Fig 3 .
  8. Using a small screwdriver, gently pry the overdrive switch from the manual selector knob, then slowly pull the wires out of the knob. See Fig 5 .
