Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
The High Voltage Disabling procedure will perform the following tasks:
  • Identify how to disable high voltage.
  • Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
  • Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.

Failure to follow the procedures exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.
  1. Inspect the inlet air vents for any obstructions or blockages that are external to the drive motor generator battery.
    • If inlet air obstructions or blockages are found, remove or repair as needed.
  2. Inspect the vent fan for any damage to the fan blades.
    • If fan or blades are damaged, replace the drive motor generator battery assembly.
  3. Ignition OFF, disable the high voltage at the drive motor generator battery. Refer to High Voltage Disabling .
  4. Ignition OFF, connect the 12 V battery.
  5. Ignition ON, command the hybrid battery coolant fan speed through the speed ranges using a scan tool. Verify the drive motor battery coolant fan is functional in all speed ranges.
    • If the fan does not operate, refer to DTC P0A81 .
  6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X 456 inline harness connector at the side drive motor generator battery assembly.
  7. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 Ω between low reference circuit terminal E and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the drive motor generator battery control module.
  8. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal D and low reference circuit terminal E.
    • If not with the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the drive motor generator battery control module.
  9. If all circuits test normal, replace the drive motor generator battery assembly.
