Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, open the hood to disable the Auto-Stop function.
  2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool hood position parameter displays Open.
    • If the hood position does not display Open, refer to DTC P254F .
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the appropriate multi-way harness connector X110 or X111, at the rear of the intake manifold.
  4. NOTE: Testing for steps 3 through 5 is performed on the ECM side of the multi-way harness connector.
  5. Connect a test lamp between ground and the high voltage control circuit terminal of the appropriate injector listed below.
    • Fuel Injector 1 terminal 8 X111
    • Fuel Injector 2 terminal 2 X110
    • Fuel Injector 3 terminal 9 X111
    • Fuel Injector 4 terminal 4 X110
    • Fuel Injector 5 terminal 10 X111
    • Fuel Injector 6 terminal 6 X110
  6. Ignition ON, clear the DTC information with a scan tool, then cycle the ignition OFF for 30 seconds.
  7. Crank or start the engine while observing the test lamp, the test lamp should flash for 2-3 seconds.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  8. Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp between B+ and the low voltage control circuit terminal of the appropriate injector listed below.
    • Fuel Injector 1 terminal 2 X111
    • Fuel Injector 2 terminal 1 X110
    • Fuel Injector 3 terminal 3 X111
    • Fuel Injector 4 terminal 3 X110
    • Fuel Injector 5 terminal 4 X111
    • Fuel Injector 6 terminal 5 X110
  9. Ignition ON, clear the DTC information with a scan tool, then cycle the ignition OFF for 30 seconds.
  10. Crank or start the engine while observing the test lamp, the test lamp should flash for 2-3 seconds.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the circuit for a short to voltage, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  11. NOTE: Testing for the following steps is performed on the fuel injector side of the multi-way harness connector. It may be necessary to remove the intake manifold to isolate the condition.
  12. Ignition OFF, measure the resistance between the appropriate ignition high voltage control circuit and ground. The DMM should display OL.
    • If less than the specified range, test the high voltage, and low control circuit, for a short to ground. If the circuits/connections test normal, test or replace the appropriate fuel injector(s).
  13. Test for 1.5-2.5 Ω between the appropriate high voltage control and low voltage control circuit.
    • If less than the specified range, test for a short between the high voltage and low voltage control circuit.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the high voltage and low voltage control circuit, for an open/high resistance.
  14. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate fuel injector(s).
