Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, open the hood to disable the Auto-Stop function.
  2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool hood position parameter displays Open.
    • If the hood position does not display Open, refer to DTC P254F .
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the MAF/IAT sensor.
  4. Ignition OFF, remove the fuse that supplies B+ to circuit terminal X2-56 of the ECM.
  5. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  6. Install the fuse that supplies B+ to circuit terminal X2-56 of the ECM.
  7. Ignition ON, test for greater 9 V between the ignition voltage circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  8. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance or a short to ground. If the circuit/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
  9. Ignition OFF, connect the red lead of the J 38522  to the signal circuit terminal A at the MAF/IAT sensor harness connector. Connect the battery voltage supply to B+, and ground the black lead.
  10. Set the J 38522  Signal switch to 5 V, the Frequency switch to 5K, and the Duty Cycle switch to Normal.
  11. Engine Idling, observe the scan tool MAF Sensor frequency parameter. The parameter should be between 4,950-5,025 Hz.
    • If not within the specified range, test the signal circuit for a high resistance. If the circuit/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
  12. If all circuits/connections test normal, replace the MAF sensor.
