Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill Without HP5) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill Without HP5) .
  2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  3. Remove catalytic converter - left side. refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4) .
  4. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  5. Remove air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LZ4) .
  6. Remove the crankshaft position actuator magnet. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement .
  7. Remove the thermostat housing.
  8. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LZ4) .
  9. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  10. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .

  12. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  13. Remove the engine front cover.
  14. Remove the engine front cover gasket.
  15. Clean and transfer any parts as needed.
