Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (GE 47716 Fill) .
  2. Remove the heater outlet hose clamp from the heater core.
  3. Remove the heater outlet hose from the heater core.
  4. Remove the heater inlet hose clamp from the heater core.
  5. Remove the heater inlet hose from the heater core.
  6. Remove the instrument panel retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .
  7. Remove the shift control bracket. Refer to Shift Control Replacement for the Getrag 5 speed transmission or Floor Shift Control Cable Replacement for the 4T45-E transmission or Shift Select Cable Replacement for the 5AT transmission.

  9. Remove the heater duct screws.
  10. Remove the heater duct.

  12. Remove the heater core cover screws.
  13. Remove the heater core cover.

  15. Remove the heater core pipe cover screw.
  16. Remove the heater core pipe cover.
  17. Remove the heater core pipe foam seal.

  19. Grasp the heater core at end tanks and remove heater core. Spray the perimeter of the heater core seal and the heater core pipes at the front of dash with a soap and water mixture to ease removal.
