Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Prevent the crankshaft from rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise before using compressed air in the cylinder. Rotation of the crankshaft may cause damage to J 43655  .
  1. If equipped, with a manual transmission leave the transmission in first gear with the vehicle on the ground and the parking brake set.
  2. If equipped, with an automatic transmission, remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (2.4L (LAT)) .
  3. Install J 43653  .

  5. Remove the camshaft. Refer to Intake Camshaft and Lifter Replacement  or Exhaust Camshaft and Lifter Replacement .
  6. Remove the camshaft roller followers.

  8. Install the front section of the J 43649  to the second camshaft cover bolt hole. See Special Tools .

  10. Install the remaining parts of the J 43649  to the cylinder head. See Special Tools .
  11. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .

  13. Install an air hose adapter into the spark plug hole.
  14. Attach an air hose to the adapter
  15. Using the compressed air, pressurize the cylinder to 690 kPa (100 psi).
  16. Compress the valve spring using the J 43649  . See Special Tools .

  18. Remove the valve spring keepers.
  19. Remove the valve spring retainer.

  21. Remove the valve spring.

  23. Using the J 36017  remove the valve seal.
