Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  2. Have an assistant install the J 38122-A  , and a breaker bar to the crankshaft balancer in order to prevent the flywheel from rotating when loosening the flywheel bolts.
  3. IMPORTANT: It may be necessary to remove the chamfer (bevel) from the edge of an 18 mm socket in order to get full engagement on the thin-headed flywheel bolts.
  4. Loosen, remove and discard the flywheel bolts.
  5. IMPORTANT: Do not orientate the flywheel to the crankshaft. It is balanced separately from the engine.
  6. Remove the flywheel.
  7. Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.
