Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important

  1. The stub axle shaft sleeve and seal must be replaced together. DO NOT replace the sleeve or seal separately.
  2. Install the new seal. Use the J 41102-1A  . See Special Tools . Lubricate the seal lip with a light wipe of transmission oil.

    IMPORTANT: Carefully guide the stub axle shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface, otherwise damage to the seal will occur.
  3. Install the two new snap rings on the stub shaft.

  4. Install the stub shaft into the transmission. Use a mallet.
  5. Install the right drive axle assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Non Hybrid) or Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Hybrid) .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Inspect the oil level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking .
  8. Inspect the shaft and the seal for leaks.
